How Annie Overcame Blocks To a Successful Compensation Claim with an hour of power
‘In 2018, USA Gymnastics (USAG) convicted its Head Olympic Coach of assaulting young girls and women for 20+ years. This conviction sparked deep research into other complaints for every gym registered with USAG. Hundreds of stories were hushed and wiped under the rug. Mine was one of those stories.
After 20 years of nobody listening to me, I got a letter in the mail, requesting a conversation about a complaint that I filed in the early 90s as a child. There was a great relief of finally having my story validated, but a huge distrust in myself that it created… As well as the system.
I had multiple attorneys reaching out to me to see if I wanted to be a part of the litigation and financial benefit from the victims claim fund. Most of them were cold and unfeeling focused on results and completion of this form… and I’m sure their own financial compensation as well.
I held onto the form for a year before I could bring myself to write my story.
I learned about Kim a few years previous in healing communities. Despite being in an entirely different country, I knew Kim’s passion for healing in a language that I understood, and my body understood… A depth of knowledge of legal transactions and forms made Kim the best person to help me open the door on a story that for years no one believed.
